Set making

Its all so exciting!

As usual it's all go with the Wanderlusting Artisans!

Creating our own really rather hectic schedule we have been:

Shooting the Lyrical Myricalz 'Amsterdam Styleez' epic hip hop/rap video. We spend 8 hours in the city filming, and have done 2 days on the site.. with more shots left to do..EPICLY BRILLIANT! Coming soon..

Making the set for our full size portrait studio, that is having its maiden voyage at 'Girlesque' 29^th April. Sewing has been full time upon Jana's return for the UK (her ungodly 'god daughter' had an official gathering, what a fabulous mottely crew they were!), with the odd tea break!

The making of the Golden Throne was made slightly harder due to a dog bite (boo..but she is a brave one that Cat, gotta be a joke in there somewhere, perhaps it's too early to laugh!).

Costumes are being made, the set is being put together with many plastic flowers and twinkly lights, a chandelier, a dove and some rather amazing gold framed mirrors..

We have got 2 days to pull everything together, the 2 UK ladies arrive.. and ZOOM it's QUEENS DAY!!!!!

Getting bookings, and taking booking for the Wanderlusting Artisans Mobile Portrait Studio!

The Wanderlusting Artisans Mini mobile Portrait Studio

The Wanderlusting Artisans are dynamo duo Jana & Cat (otherwise known as 'Trashchelle' and 'Miss Lovelock').

Working together as stylists, performers, photographers and fabulous dancers, the pair set up and run a Mini mobile Portrait Studio.

With various themes, including Marvellous Mexicana, Amazonian Adventure, Ravishing Rainbow and the all new 'Deliciously Decadent', the mini portrait studio can be set up at clubs, bars, parties and private events.

The basic premise is to set up a back drop, throne and props to create the studio. We also have the capability to produce a larger scale studio set up if needed.

The studio has the capability of printing on site, allowing gusts to take home a fabulous portrait of themselves, having taken part in a fun interactive side show experience.

Wanderlusting Artisans @ Church Club

We were invited by the gorgeous Jenny to run the Portrait Studio at Blue @ Church Club, and what a marvellous night we had!

Jenny and her team of ladies were most welcoming (special thanks to the Countess for being photographed with so many adoring fans!), the party atmosphere was great, being keep grooving along with DJs Bo and Alisha, and we had plenty of willing participants!

Great to meet the brilliant Sexy Galexy – we wanna hang with that Grrrl! And to meet Bianca of Girlesque, great things are being planned!

We are a happy couple of artisans!

Lyrical Myricalz 'Amsterdam Styleez'

Filming for the music video for THE Hip Hop/Rap single of the moment the Lyrical Myricalz 'Amsterdam Styleez' has begun!

The sun was shining and Honey Bunch was transformed into a Styling/make up/catering/shot planning trailer, glitter was liberally applied, and rap lyrics rehearsed..

Various scenes were shot on site, and on location (veg market and a ferry!), with plenty of dance moves being thrown down..the Friekens site has never seen anything quite like it!

More work to be done, but the beginning is strong!

We have been working away!

Its been super sunny and work has been buzzing along!

Cat set up her jewellery making table, and with some new supplies from an great den of a haberdashery made Fabulous Feather Fancys.

Jana decided that it was far too glorious to be indoors, and set up her sewing studio on the back Of Honey Bunch, a perfect work space!

AND we have been invited to be guest designers at a fashion show in the City on 8^th May with www.olifanttakeover.com which we are super excited about! After that we head to Berlin!

Time Flies!

Time is flying!

Our time in Amsterdam is flying..we met up with two fabulous designers/actors/ex sailors of the 'Azart Ship of Fools'. They now live in Amsterdam and design and make amazing clothes from recycled clothes and fabrics, and working with knitting, embroidery, bead work, printed and painted textiles, and design theatre costumes..amazing! (myspace-olifanttakeover/www.olifanttakeover.com). We had a spontaneous dinner party at theirs and shared stories of how boring we found fetish clubs, the delights of tatziki, and why there was a lack of places for independent designers to sell their collections in Amsterdam.

Found an amazing market, with great fabric shops and haberdashery.. and tried not to dribble with delight over feathers, chains, elastics, ruffles, gold puffs, glitter shiny things and orange braces...and enjoyed the cranes hanging around the fish stalls.

Queens day is fast approaching (30^th April) and we have been warned by many a local and squatter a like that its 'fooking chaos and totally packed, it can take hours to cross Dam square..don't even think about taking a bike..get ready for Orange!'.

We are aiming to set up our portrait studio in/outside of a bar in the Pink Triangle area..dressing up Queens as Queens..splendid!!! And we have arranged a couple more gigs running the Portrait Studio at some Gay club nights - fab!

We also have our favourite 'WHATEVER STATE WE'RE IN' Road trip Grrrls arriving that weekend..assuming that they can actually get to us/find us we will have a REALLY fun few days!

Also found Fab Lab (fablab.nl) in the oldest secular building in Amsterdam, it has been used as a city gate, a fire station and now is a bar/resource centre. Fab Lab provides free training and use of their laser cutting equipment, a really amazing resource for Cat and her jewellery, a brill find!

Cycling home at night was great as we got to see bridges lit up along all the canals.

We have also re-arranged Honey Bunch AGAIN.. this time Cats bed has now moved to the 'East Wing' (middle of the van) which is now the bedroom department, and giving us MASSES of seating/communal area in the West Wing (back of the van). The storage works better like this too, and we feel the Fung Shui is definitely vibing with the set up this way!

Thanks to the ADM crew for a great party!

We ran the Portrait studio in style, and had plenty of willing participants, and met some wicked people. There were moustaches galore – which we were very pleased to see!

Thanks to all those who took part, and to those who bought prints from us, it all goes to support us being travelling artists.

The earth gave way

We return home to Friekens after 2 days at the Snorren & Snollen Party at ADM .. wanting nothing more than a cup of coffee and toast, feeling well happy with our Portrait Studio success.

Then the earth gave way..

and Honey bunch fell down a hole..

We felt sick..

Honey Bunch didn’t look too hot..

BUT 3 Dutch men, a French man, 3 van jacks, 4 dogs, some rubble, lots of discussing and 2 coffees later we were free!!!

WE LOVE THE FRIEKENS CREW!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!! Cooking a huge pot of veg yum to say thanks.. Thank goodness for these chaps!!!!

Then it rained..

and rained some more

Then we found a leak in the roof. 

Though we did a brill job of sealing the roof in Manchester, we had to unseal a bit to open a vent in the top sleeping bit.. and didn’t re seal it.. A classic error if there ever was one!

 And so once again we sprang into action whilst still in PJs, and in POURING rain and high winds moved Terry the 7FT Egyptian, and fought to get a tarp tied down over Honey bunches roof.. leak panic over!

And it kept on raining, the skies were dark, everyone and their dog huddled inside their wagons, and so we did the same, sans dog!  

 

3 movies later, some sewing done, loads of Spring onions (we got a HUGE bag for 1 euro) and Garlic cooked and eaten in various forms (Cat is doing a good job fighting a cold, but the battle is not quite won), living in a blue bubble and starting to get cabin fever we Sat.. and Sat. 

 

Highlights were leaping out of the van, across mini lakes that formed overnight, and dashing through rain to do some washing up, and have a pee, rock n roll!

Today is still stormy, Jana Road off to buy more ‘Isoflex’ or a Dutch version of, to fix the roof, and Cat road tested the printer for the Portrait Booth we are running tomorrow night at ADM squat party. So today we are organising the dressing up wardrobe we have on board, and painting up a sign for the portrait studio. We can’t wait to get off site.. and onto another! But to see someone else mud right now seems rather thrilling!
